Review of 2024 With Temporary Works and Demolition Case Studies

This CPD webinar provides an overview of various engineering projects from 2024 involving Andun Engineering Consultants, including bridges, high-rise demolitions, industrial demolitions, and other high-profile projects.

The webinar looks at the technical and strategic approaches adopted by Andun, focusing on smarter construction practices and risk mitigation.

A core theme is the application of their mantra, “no temporary works is the best temporary works,” which underscores our commitment to minimising reliance on temporary structures through improved constructability and efficient design.

Industrial Dismantling: 40-Ton Dock Crane

This project focused on dismantling a 40-ton dock crane. The work required detailed site surveys, stability assessments, and a step-by-step dismantling sequence.

Hull and Cross Gates Gas Holders

The demolition of these gas holders involving comprehensive site surveys and stability checks.

Pilgrim Place Basement Propping

This project required temporary works to support a double-height basement construction. Challenges included propping existing contiguous walls and adapting to changes in slab and pile cap levels. Solutions included utilising permanent works pile caps to minimise temporary foundations and streamline the construction programme.

Lever Street Unsafe Structures

This case involved an urgent response to stabilise unsafe structures. The team assessed the site within hours and provided a demolition scope and facade retention designs to make the area safe.
