A recent project where Andun provided CAT 3 checks was a blow down at Scunthorpe steelworks for Sam Evans and Sons.
We have an excellent working relationship with Sam Evans and Sons which means that CAT 3 checks are a collaborative experience that adds genuine engineering value rather than being a tick box exercise.
The check involved reviewing the proposed demolition sequence, the sequencing behind the weakening of the structure as well as the structural stability. We also provided a review of the method statement for the works.
The structure we provided a check for was blown down in line with the proposed scheme and was executed according to plan.
Andun Approach To CAT III Checks
Andun regularly support demolition contractors with the design and sequencing of a range of different demolition schemes.
This can include providing CAT 3 checks for the contractors proposed demolition sequence.
Andun add value to Cat III checks by ensuring that our findings are not presented as pass/fail.
Instead our team review projects and provide comprehensive feedback on the validity of the design. Our engineers where appropriate raise issues and work with the designer to resolve queries, while maintaining the requisite level of independence.
