BASEMENT TEMPORARY WORKS
Part of the complexity of basement temporary works schemes is the requirement for multiple temporary works disciplines concurrently.
Some of the temporary works that may be required for a basement project can include
Propping |
Piling |
Steelworks |
---|---|---|
Underpinning |
Clash Detection |
Working Platform Design |
Plant load assessments |
Wailer beams |
Cabin Foundations |
Hoist based mast climber base designs |
Temporary Works Inspection |
Retaining Wall Stability Analysis |
CAT 3 Checks |
Mobile Crane Positioning |
Tower cranes |
BASEMENT TEMPORARY WORKS CAT 3 CHECKS
Due to the complexity and risk of basement engineering, CAT 3 checks are typically a requirement for basement schemes
BASEMENT TEMPORARY WORKS CONSTRUCTABILITY
One of the key design considerations for basement temporary works is the buildability of the project.
Successful schemes require detailed planning and cooperation between the different contractors onsite, as well as between the temporary and permanent works providers to ensure the project can be completed successfully.
AWARD WINNING EXPERIENCE
Two basement temporary works projects that Andun have been involved in have won ICE awards for constructability.
Landmark Manchester
Part of the £100m Landmark redevelopment in Manchester required basement temporary works.
This project was awarded the Chair’s Constructability Award at the 2019 ICE North West Awards.
The basement propping scheme involved supporting the existing outer perimeter walls using fabricated steel raking props that were supported from a central r.c. basement raft.
Support to the corners of the structure was provided with horizontal flying shore braces.
Temporary Works Design Input

- 3D sequence drawings
- Basement propping design including fully detailed fabrication drawings
- Working platform design
- Justification of mobile cranes operating on adjacent roads
- Reinforced and unreinforced earth batter design
- Cat 2 checks as well as the arrangement of the cat 3 checks where required
- Site visit and temporary works inspections
