Andun Northern Office Portfolio

Recent northern-based projects in which Andun have provided temporary works and demolition sequencing support include:

North bank Demolition – Co-Op HQ Demolition, Brown Street Demolition

Coleman & Co – Sellafield, Liverpool and St Helen’s Gas Holder Demolition, Hull Gas Works

Grosvenor Hotel, Sheffield

Grosvenor house hotel was a multi-storey structure with a car park and retail area surrounding it. The structure was demolished in phases with a small façade retained adjacent to the car park.

The majority of the structure was removed using specialist high reach demolition excavators with some areas requiring smaller plant operating on the elevated structure demolishing in a ‘top-down’ method. During the project Andun provided the structural appraisals, 2D & 3D sequence drawings as well as plant justification for all demolition plant.

Manchester Odeon

Andun acted as engineering consultants on behalf of the demolition contractor during the demolition of a former theatre in central Manchester. The structure was a 1920s structure which fronted onto Oxford Street and was a well-known landmark in the city centre.

The majority of the structure was demolished using specialist high reach demolition excavators however the main truss that spanned across the vaulted theatre ceiling was removed in a ‘pull down’ method.

Andun provided early demolition methodology guidance, approved method statements, carried out global stability analysis, provided demolition sequence drawings, as well as carrying out site inspections. The theatre was successfully demolished in Spring 2017.

St James Edinburgh

Andun were appointed to carry out temporary works design and checks on the redevelopment of the St James Centre, Edinburgh by the appointed demolition contractor on the project. The design work was made challenging owing to parts of the structure being retained and remaining open during demolition works. This had a significant impact on demolition methodology and the temporary works solutions.

Andun provided 3D demolition sequence drawings, plant justification on the structure, justification of bespoke cantilevering scaffold on the existing structure and the global stability analysis of the high rise office block which included design of propriety bracing to stabilise the structure during demolition.
